In 2017, India confronted China in a Doklam region. It happens to be a tri-junction border area. As per the agreements, the area belonged to India's strategical partner Bhutan.
Chinese started infrastructure work in the Doklam region of Bhutan, which was stridently opposed. The area in which the Chinese planned to build the roads, was hindering Bhutan's military interests. To tackle China, Bhutan, with the assistance of India, successfully managed to restrict Chinese in further advancements. China Stopped.
It took 75 days for India and China to stand-off the issue!
On 16th June, India reported the sacrifices of her Jawans, amidst the skirmish across the LAC. These are the very first casualty incidents reported by the nation along this border, in many previous years.
What has happened?
Tensions across the China-India border, Line of Actual Control, near the Galwan region rose, with the deployment of Chinese PLA forces. In reply, to maintain integrity and sovereignty, Indian troops were sent to guard the LAC. This region, Aksai Chin, previously, was part of the Indian Territory until the Chinese fought and captured it in 1962. China's intrusion across borders is not a very new phenomenon, but this time the forces look quite motivated on both sides. Surprisingly, this has come when the whole world is tackling with the Corona pandemic, which is supposedly originated from China. Maybe these actions are the percussions of all those heated arguments China is facing on Coronavirus.
Whereas, this situation is a consequence of many activities within and across the border.
India's rising infrastructure developments in the Leh region and construction of 255 Km-long strategic Darbuk-Shyok-Daulat Beg Oldie (DSDBO) road, including eight bridges, hinder China in protecting its interests in the captured area of Aksai Chin. These developments of India lie very well within her borders. Chinese forces have acknowledged these advancements and fear the consequences, so these intrusions.(you can observe the route from above shown image)
Moreover, a worldwide pandemic has turned worse for China. As the entire world blames it for not restricting and spreading the virus, which has created destructions on so-many different levels. China will, of course, not agree to these allegations. Maybe the neighboring countries are the first ones to face their swings. Not only India, many neighboring countries of China who directly or indirectly joining hands with Anti-China forces are facing backlashes. China-Taiwan, China-Hongkong, China-Indonesia over the south China sea, China-Australia and China-India, are the countries dealing with China's tantrums.
The internal Politics in China:
Few also speculate that China's President Xi is going through a rough political patch. Although China is a communist One-party system, Xi is facing opposition from his party. He is also challenged by various intellectuals, institutions in China, for mishandling the Corona crisis and state of affairs in the country. As a reply to these growing Anti-Xi environment, president after high-level meetings with his loyal members, started exerting pressure on its neighbors. This expansionist approach may help him to gather people's trust and confidence.
India:
India, by far, is handing the crisis well. We had recently taken a Lt-Gen level meeting with Chinese forces. India had strongly asked China to move aback their forces, destroy bunkers, and follow the LAC. Both the countries are not in favor of war and believe the situation can be resolved by dialogue and Diplomacy, yet both are confident in their military and its powers. India strategically held online-conference with Australia recently, which is also facing a Chinese backlash.
With the situation under control in the patroling region 14,15 and 17 of the Galwan region, conflicts and PLA presence continues in Finger 4 to Finger 8 region near Pangong, which is considered as LAC by India. The recent unfortunate incident of sacrifice took place when the Indian Military force was patrolling in these finger regions. Although incidents of firing were not observed, officers are supposed to succumb to death due to the terrain conditions when involved in a fight with stones and rods.
India & China officials both allege each other for crossing the LAC when Chinese base-camps can be sited within the Indian region. Indian leadership is inclined to resolve the issue through dialogues and shows complete confidence in the Army if involved in any warfare practice. PM Modi recently announces an all-party meeting on 19th June, to take them into confidence and move together as a team.
