Every 5 years, India rushes to the polls. This year in 2014, once again India embraced herself to get into the General Elections to elect her representative. This was the 16th Lok Sabha Election. This election was special for the 100million Indians as they were going to cast their vote for the first time in independent India. India was going to witness nearly 814.5 million voters in this election. If compared to the United States this number will be reached if each American is allowed to cast his/her vote 2.5 times. This was the time a huge mass of youth was being exposed to various ideological fight.

India had witnessed various big scams, fighting the stagnant economy and falling rupee value under the regime of Congress-led UPA-II. And to fight against an incumbent government this time its opposition, BJP played an out of the deck card by appointing Narendra Modi as their prime minister candidate by dismissing Mr.L.K Advani. Mr.Modi was the celebrated chief minister of the Indian state Gujrat. He served as a C.M for 15 years, consecutively. This election Bjp which is perceived as a Right-Wing party in India made a relentless attempt in forwarding their Ideology by campaigning across different age groups, geographies, and the section of society.

A huge marketing team was behind Mr.Modi in this election to develop his image and his thoughts into a brand. Congress, on the other hand, was already facing various setbacks due to the governance they provided in their second term 2009-2014. Congress couldn't either market their leader Mr.Rahul Gandhi. Mr.Modi is believed to perform about 5000 events and 470 political rallies during the campaign which has been recorded as a world record.

The year 2014 turned out to be a huge setback for the center-left, left parties, and few caste-based regional parties and resurgence of the Right-wing ideology and politics in India. This election made a powerful impact on the youth and connected them to mainstream politics. We were made to think, understand politics, and were included in the discussions. Mr.Modi was successful in attracting India to his vision for India and as a result, Bhartiya Janta Party swept the 16th Lok Sabha Elections by securing 282 seats individually. And for the first time after many years of Congress rule India gave a complete majority to a Right-wing party.

This was the entry of young India into Indian politics and integrated the youth with mainstream politics. I think this was the pivotal moment for the youth politics in the country. For more interesting political insights please keep following " The Old Monk"! :-)
